PROUD OF OUR PROGRESS

The mission of the Fleur de lis Ambassador Program is to spread the message that New Orleans is an economically viable, livable city with a long-range recovery plan in progress; to seek additional support in our recovery from business and philanthropic organizations.

NEW ORLEANS: FIVE YEARS LATER

August 29, 2010 marks the fifth year anniversary of Hurricane Katrina's landfall. The storm devastated New Orleans and the lives of hundreds of thousands of people. Since then, the city has made remarkable strides in a number of areas. A recently published study from the Greater New Orleans Data Center and Brookings Institution revealed that greater New Orleans is rebounding and in some ways, doing better than before. The City has become more "resilient," with increased civic capacity and new systemic reforms, better positioning New Orleans to adapt and transform its future.

Yet, key economic, social, and environmental trends in the New Orleans metro area remain troubling, testing the region’s path to prosperity.

Several Fleur de Lis Ambassadors reflected on the city's progress in the last five years in several key areas such as the  economy, reform, education and neighborhood revitalization.
